Renovation Week 3

Sunday, July 31, 2016

So if you follow me on Instagram, you'd know by now my home reno is alr complete weeehooo! I've said this a million times to myself but I really LOVE my house and I can't wait to decorate and blog all about it. But first, the (belated) week three update!

Carpentry

My tiny wardrobe for my tiny room is up. During the planning stage, we had soooo~ many ideas for this area. You see that fugly window (for aircon ledge) sticking out of nowhere? Well initially we thought of extending the width of the wardrobe and hide it inside but that would result in a much lesser space for the room entrance, which causes inconvenience esp when shifting furniture.

So we scrap that idea and now I have to pretend it doesn't bother me..... Still learning to thou. T_T

Also, having an L-shaped wardrobe wasn't in my must-have list cos I believe just one would be enough (ha ha that's me in denial talking) After a meeting with my ID and seeing one in his office that has the same size as ours, I went back home and counted the number of hangers I have in my current wardrobe. You know, just to make sure I reaaaally need that extra space.

"One..Two...Ten...Fifteen...Nineteen...Twenty-six... Thirty-nine....sixty-seven wait wait what was I thinking OK WE DEF NEED A BIGGER SPACE"

Meh. I should've known better huh.

So the picture on the left shows my space. There's more space inside all the way to the left where I can hang longer dresses. The picture on the right belongs to the kareshi.

Lighting

We bought all our lights from Tampoi, JB many months ago. Cheap cheap good good!

Crestar Rainlite ceiling fan from Hoe Kee.

The lights we chose don't come in black so the kareshi kindly helped me spray it all.

We saw this selling at Star Living for a price double of what we got from Tampoi.

The more I see it, the more I'm not liking the inner yellow. Is it just me or it seems like it doesn't match the kitchen. I wonder if it's too late to spray them now?

The bar top has round edges cos according to the Mister, it's for future kids' safety. LOL I only think of round edges =  more pleasing to my eyes.

I'm only left with the table top before my kitchen is complete! Some items that we have for now:

Blanco Naya 8.

Hob and hood from Tecno. This picture was taken days ago so you can see my table top here.

Ending this post with this picture of my boo labeling the bathroom accessories.

Thank you so much for being in charge of this whole reno process and making it all easier for me. Lucky to have such a reliable partner like you! Love you :D #nowplshelptospraykitchenlights

Renovation Week 2

Sunday, July 24, 2016

So I've decided to standardise the titles for my home reno entries just becase I hate how long the previous title was. Currently at week three now so here's my (delayed) update for week twoooooo.

Last two weeks I blogged about the status of my cement screed and our sofa and dining table purchase here. Last week, progressions seems good and also a bit too fast too furious hehehe.

Last Friday I dropped by after work and I'm happy to share that painting work is all done!

Countdown #4

HOW FAST TIME FLIES!

When I first started the wedding countdown on my blog, it was 595 days away. Today it's down to 123!

Nothing new happened since the last update, except that the kareshi has registered our marriage online exactly at midnight. Thank God for such a reliable partner cos there's no way I will sacrifise my sleep just for that. Anws, according to my checklist timeline, I need to get the invitation cards printed, plan the itinerary and prepare the venue layout by this month. But as you know the home reno is taking place right now so most of my time (and money T_T) is spent on it so let's see if we can get actually them done!

Renovation Week 1

Selamat Hari Raya ya'll!!

So how's your Raya going everyone? Are you enjoying the food glorious food and the fact that you're gaining back all the weight you've lost last month in three days? Also, getting together with both loved ones and those I-met-once-a-year relatives? Or you are one of the those people who just don't enjoy the Raya vibes and prefer to stay at home all day, far away from any form of social interaction?

Like me. ha ha

Just like any other year, my Raya is celebrated in the simplest way possible. On the first day, I visited just two houses, as compared to just one last year. I was on bed in my PJs, both sweat and makeup-free by at five p.m. Today is the 6th of Syawal and I've visited a grand total of FOUR houses since day one, excluding the kareshi's friends' houses I visited along with his friends on Syawal day three.

I'll be blogging about my Raya in a nutshell in some other day, today I'm excited to share what I was more interested in on the very first day of Raya this year.

TADA.

I've been patiently waiting for this day cos it means my ID and team can now commence work!

FYI, we appealed for HDB cement screed on 4th May and the work was only carried out on 6th July. Everything was completed within a day and we need to wait for at least one week before we lay out the vinyl tiles. HDB provided a standard 40mm smooth floor rendering which means that after overlay of our (5mm) vinyl flooring, the toilet and kitchen floor will be slightly higher than the living room's.

In the end, we forked out 700$ just to add another 5mm for the cement screed. Meh.

The kareshi and I were at Star Living a few times before and we sort of have our eyes on what we want to buy. Previously we took a picture of the dimensions and yesterday, we placed paper tapes on the floor to give us a sense of how much space they'll take and we have left around the place.

And then we made our dining table + dining bench + sofa purchase! Scored a good deal I must say.

Grumpy cat.

Me: Can you pose please? I need to post pictures on my blog.

hahaha

We also went down to IKEA to get some stuff for my kitchen. My pretty pretty kitchen~

Next up: Painting works this Wednesday and overlay of tiles this Friday! CAN'T WAIT!

The Mood Board

Monday, July 4, 2016

After what seems like donkey's years, we received good news from HDB informing us that the cement screeding will take place this Wednesday (yes on Hari Raya!)

L I K E  F I N A L L Y

I've mentioned here that the reason why we chose to get this free service from HDB despite its super slow waiting time is that we're in no rush to move in. Of course besides the key word there : free.

Just like my wedding preparation, when I first started my reno planning, I was OBSESSED. I spent hours browsing through Pinterest, looking at my floor plan and visualising the kind of home I dream of and reading thru every page of Renotalk. I even came out with a 9-paged PPT with my principal considerations and mood board for every corner of every room in my little abode.

There. I kid you not.

Here's my floor plan to start off this entry....
